WHEREAS, eggs are a convenient and nutritious food choice for today’s busy lifestyle and can be prepared in a variety of ways and used in numerous dishes such as quiches, frittatas, and omelets; and

WHEREAS, a single egg contains only 70 calories, is a great source of  protein, and is packed with 13 essential nutrients, including choline, folate, iron, and zinc; and

WHEREAS, Virginia egg producers care for flocks ranging in size from under 500 hens to flocks comprised of several thousand birds, with each laying bird producing between 280 and 320 eggs a year; and

WHEREAS, in 2021, egg production in the Commonwealth totaled 710,700,000, which, when packaged, is more than 599 million dozen count containers; and

WHEREAS, eggs are Virginia’s 11th highest ranked agricultural commodity with cash receipts of more than $94 million in 2021; and

WHEREAS, eggs have been, and continue to be, consumed and enjoyed for centuries by Virginians, beginning with those who founded the Jamestown settlement in 1607; and
